Waroona Visitor Centre & Mooriel the Cow
Location: 37 South West Highway, Waroona
The Waroona Visitor Centre is home to a contemporary art and craft gallery representing over 30 local artists, artisans, and craftspeople. The gallery has a wide range including quality paintings, fine wood and metalwork, fashion and works in textile and yarn, sculptures, jewellery, craft and delicious preserves. The visitor centre is also home to Mooriel the Cow – you can find her in front of the centre dressed in her very best wears! Keep an eye out for her frequent costume changes.The centre is open daily from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Heritage Bush Poles
Location: 37 South West Highway, Waroona
The Heritage Bush Poles were a community-driven project led by Merle and Tony Davis and completed in 2000. Each pole was carved to reflect key aspects of Waroona’s heritage, including its industries, natural environment, and recreational life. The carvings feature symbols such as a kangaroo, trout, crab, marron, drake, dairy cow, red-tailed black cockatoo, Aboriginal landscapes, a water skier, and a hand holding a spanner. The poles can be found nearby the Waroona Visitor Centre in the information bay.

Railside Park
Location: 95 South West Highway, Waroona
Opened to the public in December 2023, Railside Park showcases a diverse collection of artworks that honour the region’s heritage and highlight the Shire’s strong ties to the natural environment. From Andrew Fraser’s striking Hidden Treasures in Open Spaces murals and Shardah Jetta Farmer’s vibrant Indigenous pieces, to the colourful Waroona Footnotes mosaics and Wayne Smith’s Redtail Cockatoos in a Tree, the park offers something for everyone to appreciate.

Drakesbrook Centennial Park
Location: Cnr South West Highway & Dehamel Street, Waroona
Drakesbrook Centennial Park was established to honour 100 years of local government and education in the district. The park stands on the original site of Drakesbrook School, which served the community from 1898 until the late 1980s. In 2005, the final remaining school building was tragically lost to fire. Today, a thoughtfully designed memorial marks the spot, featuring artistic depictions of children’s games and a symbolic tribute to the old schoolhouse. At the heart of the park is a charming rotunda, beautifully embellished with mosaics and striking historical artwork that reflect the rich heritage and vibrant stories of the local community.

Waroona Showgrounds
Location: 100 South West Highway, Waroona
Within the Waroona Showgrounds, you’ll discover stunning murals by artist Jerome Davenport. The artwork on the Marchetti Shed captures the essence of farming life in the district, featuring scenes of beef and dairy cattle, sheep, horses, fruit and vegetable horticulture, land conservation, irrigation, bees, stock transport, loyal working dogs, and a classic moment of two farmers pausing for a chat beside a ute and tractor. The sepia-toned Walmsley Pavilion mural draws inspiration from Historical Society photographs, showcasing local buildings and businesses, two girls attending the Waroona Show in the 1950s, children in Hamel enjoying fresh watermelon, young men riding bicycles, and a heartfelt tribute to the Walmsley family’s four-generation legacy with the Waroona Agricultural Society. Bright, colourful artworks also enliven the nearby cattle yards.

Memorial Hall

Waroona Memorial Hall and Drakesbrook Place offer a showcase of local creativity. Wander through this space to discover the beautiful mosaics, unique sculptures, and four art display boxes tucked along the wall of the toilet block – each revealing a glimpse into the region’s artistic spirit.

Drakesbrook Weir
Location: Weir Road, Waroona
Local Noongar artist Shardah Jetta Farmer has beautifully portrayed the region’s vibrant colours and stories connected to the Noongar seasons. Her artwork can be seen on the BBQs and toilet block at Drakesbrook Weir.

Historical Society

The Waroona Historical Society is housed in the former Drakesbrook District Road Board offices, situated at the corner of Millar Street and the South Western Highway. The building itself shares the story of the district, with historical photographs and information panels displayed on the exterior walls, offering a captivating glimpse into Waroona’s past.

Preston Beach
Location: Various - Preston Beach Road, Panorama Drive and Preston Beach Car Park, Preston Beach
At the entrance to Preston Beach, visitors are greeted by a series of beautifully carved bush poles crafted by Merle and Tony Davis as part of the Heritage Bush Poles project, celebrating the unique character and stories of the area. Nearby, the Preston Beach Community Centre showcases a vibrant mural, created in collaboration between artist Melski McVee and the local community, depicting the region’s native flora and fauna. Adding to the artistic charm, James Giddy has transformed the beach carpark toilet block with a striking mural of one of Preston Beach’s most iconic and beloved residents – the Emu.

Lake Clifton
Location: Newnham Road, Lake Clifton
Along the Lake Clifton Lime Kiln Walk, visitors are treated to a series of interpretive artworks that celebrate the area’s natural and cultural history. Thoughtfully designed artworks reflect the stories of the ancient thrombolites, the old lime kiln industry, and the deep connection the Noongar people have with the land and lake. The artworks enhance the walking experience, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape while offering moments of reflection, learning, and appreciation for this unique environment.
